Award Nomination 2013

The award nominations for the 2013 San Francisco 48 Hour Film Project have been announced, and once again, Barewitness Films has snagged one!

Cycling Hope, this year’s entry in the weekend film contest, has been nominated for:

Best Use of Music

Cycling Hope, which makes use of silent scenes paired with music, represents our first collaboration with San Francisco composer Martha Stoddard, whose beautiful music underscores our hopeful film.

Martha Stoddard, composer

Variations on an Icelandic Folk Song, performed by ChamberMix (Martha Stoddard, Artistic Director) and Cowgirl Rondo, performed by the San Francisco Composer’s Chamber Orchestra (Mark Alburger, Music Director), provide a unique emotional tone for the silent scenes in the film.

Cinematic images composed under the wise hand of Director Kerry Gudjohnsen, were skillfully woven together with the music, by Editor Matthew Gardner.

Guest Artists

We happily welcomed Sam Selliman to her first Barewitness project as our lead actor and awesome Superhero, and actor Kari Wishingrad returned for her second Barewitness film. Seasoned film director Paul Martin donned his acting cap and stepped in front of the camera. William Salit joined us for the first time, as cinematographer for the second unit. Repeat offender Nico Schafgans was our Director of Photography, and Anna Osada reprized her role as Assistant Director.

Rounding out the team, Barewitness Players Glenda Solis, Marie Bouquet Hay, Jan Probst and Stan Stone, each fulfilled roles on both cast and crew.

Barewitness Films has been a participating team in the 48 Hour Film Project-San Francisco five times, and has garnered seven award nominations, with three wins (and counting) along the way.

Congratulations to Martha Stoddard, Kerry Gudjohnsen and the entire Barewitness Team!

Addendum

Barewitness Films would like to congratulate Fish Eye Films for capturing the Music Award with their musical Goyim on the Roof.

Kudos also go to Weird and Grimy for nabbing the top award for San Francisco with their short film Snow in the City, and all of the award winners from the 2013 competition by the bay. The full list of winners can be found here:

The Barewitness Players extend hearty applause to each of the participating teams from the 2013 tour. Well done, filmmakers, we are proud to be among you. See you next time!
